     Why is NAD+ so important?

    NAD+ enables cells to generate cellular energy from the food that we eat. It is also an important substrate for a variety of NAD+-consuming enzymes (including PARPs and sirtuins). Even though scientists have known about this molecule for more than 100 years, there are more studies being published on NAD+ than ever before. This resurgence of scientific interest is partly sparked by research showing NAD+ can decrease over time and under metabolic stress.
